10) Invitations come to both of you, not just you. Ex: "Do you and Sue want to come over to me and Tina's house to watch the big game?" "Does Sue eat steak? We are going to have steak?" etc.
9) "Where is (insert name of significant other)?" is the most asked question you get, vastly (and excitingly) replacing "So... are you seeing anyone yet? Anyone at all...?"
8) Convenient excuse to maneuver out of things you don't want to do. Your cousins best friends sister-in-law wants you to come help her move out of her apartment? Sorry! Your boyfriend's having a special family dinner that you have been invited to. DARN!
7) Seeing those people you went to high school with is now WAY more fun. "Hey (insert name of girl who always screwed you over in high school)! Is that your new baby? When's your wedding? He's in JAIL? What a shame! Have you met my hunky, never-been-convicted boyfriend yet? Have I mentioned he can bench press 1 zillion pounds? No?"
6) Family events are bearable. Boyfriend/Girlfriend + Good Family Party Booze? You do the math.
5) Expenses and fun. My boyfriend and I do a good job of responsibly splitting things when we go out. That's just the way we are. I very much so enjoy getting my credit card bills since I have been dating him because the expenses are hilarious. Charge to the weird movie theater 10 miles away? Charge to the ice arena where we both fell a million times? Totally worth it. Those are things I never would have done alone and am happy to do with my favorite person.
4) Venting buddy (without competition). Every time something happens at work my sig. other has my back. It is really nice to have someone who will take your side no matter what! PLUS, if the reason I am mad is because I am particularly hormonal or someone dressed better than me that day (yes, those are REAL problems in my world) I know he is not going to try and "one-up" me with a story on HIS cramps and clothes issues. He doesn't have any. We are on the same team. No inter-team competition necessary.
3) Events to look forward to! Hard week at work? The BF/GF and you are going skiing this weekend! You can get through it! Got the winter blues? You two are going to have so much fun in a month when you are at your lake house together! Daydreaming of your romantic plans together won't get your work done faster... but it will make work GO faster!
2) The things I cannot write in case my mother is reading this. I am kidding. It is nice to have someone to snuggle, kiss, relax with etc.
1) Having a best friend that you can bring everywhere... and you are expected to! I never get tired of bringing my significant other to weddings, weekends away, etc. People want me to bring him and I am happy to oblige!
