I am now in love with Amy Schumer.
Bold statement from a girl with a boyfriend of two years. But it's true.
And NO, it didn't have anything to do with the fact that the second the opening credits started rolling for the movie "Trainwreck" my best friend whispered in my ear, "I'm really impressed with the fact that you snuck in that 32 oz Pepsi in here"; not only validating my own pride, but reminding me the reason why she and I were best friends in the first place.
No, I can honestly say I loved the movie without that incredible kickoff to it.
Preceding my viewing of this incredible film, I saw Schumer on Kelly and Michael, read about her in Glamour Magazine, and Googled her at length. And the more I learned and the more she talked the more I started to idolize her. I love her look, her attitude towards weight, her career path, her energy. Then I saw Trainwreck. And I was hooked.
In magazines there are usually two categories: skinny and plus sized. (Yes, I'm about to go all "first world problems" on you.) "Curves are beautiful" or "thin is in" but never "average is awesome too!" Schumer somehow manages to be a knockout, not thin, not too curvy, not average, just gorgeous! How does she do it?
Wit. Intelligence. Sass.
Did I mention I love her?
Finally a movie where the awkward undertones belong to the men. Finally a movie where the woman is taking control of her life and not being the victim. Finally a female role model that we can be proud of.
Schumer, thank you for not asking us to be curvier or skinner. Thank you for challenging us to be smarter, more assertive and a little sassier.
Schumer on people. Schumer on.
