I don’t really know how it happened. Perhaps it was the fact that things are going so well for my fiancé and myself… or maybe it was the comfort in the knowledge that I finally understand the military… but I got cocky and thought that nothing could happen to him since he isn’t in the Middle East.
I was wrong.
My fiancé is fine. He is doing well at Officer Training School. But a friend of mine is NOT fine.
My friend is in the Air Force stationed in Italy. He is a lover of Woody from Toy Story. He is a country music fan. He wears boots. He’s awesome at beer pong.
And he is missing.
He wasn’t in a warzone. He isn’t under constant fire. But I forgot. Just by being somewhere else. Just by doing “the job”, you are always in danger.
I cannot even imagine what his family and close friends are going through. I can’t imagine what happened or where he is. All that they can do… all that WE can do… is pray that he is okay.
Even when the news quiets down about ISIS and terrorism… even when we think everyone is safe doing their jobs… sometimes they aren’t. And that is why we need to keep praying.
I got cocky. I got careless in my prayers. But my friends disappearance has reminded me to remember that anything can happen.
We are praying for you. We hope you come home soon.
