In picking a bridal party, one of the things that particularly stinks is having to actually revert to that. “Who is my best friend? Who is my other best friend?” It totally started to suck. Until I realized: I am a grown up. I do not have to justify or quantify my relationships. The friend I texted every day could be my best friend. The friend I talk to on the phone every day could be my best friend. The person I talk to sparingly but when we do, it is like no time has passed was also my best friend. It is truly awesome.
The even better thing is when your best friends all become friends. I used to have a dance best friend, a college best friend, a church best friend, and a high school best friend. Now, my dance best friend lives near and occasionally hangs with my college best friend. My church best friend thinks my dance best friend is hilarious. Everyone loves my high school best friend.
Even if my wedding is a total disaster (and it has the potential to be at times), it is truly a gift to see my best friends and some of my favorite family members come together to form a best friend cult. Even if my marriage lasts less time than Kim Kardashian’s (not gonna happen), we are creating memories and a bond together which is pretty special.
