And the Cubs have finally done it.
Regardless of the outcome of this game, the Cubs have had an amazing run. After a 108 year wait, the Chicago Cubs made it this far in the World Series and they finally did it.
As a White Sox fan once told me, the Sox are a hometown team... the Cubs are a nationwide brand. Years of 100+ loss seasons have led to this year, to this victory. A nation is in awe. I realize that this isn't the first time Chicago will see such a triumph in this century, as the White Sox accomplished this feat in 2005, but this is as special for the Cubs and their nation of fans as this was to the White Sox back then.
In Chicago, the phrases "When pigs fly," or "when hell freezes over," are actually translated to, "When the Cubs win the World Series." That being said, a lot of insane things are about to happen in Chicago. Will we stop corrupt politicians? Will we finally figure out traffic on Lake Shore Drive? Or even, what's the most impossible scenario to imagine, will the Chicago Bears get a decent quarterback? Only time will tell.
Congratulations to the patient Cubs fans and to this history making team. I hope this feeling doesn't take another 108 years to get back.
