Senseless violence sees no politics. Pro-gun. Anti-gun. I don't care what you are. Illegal acts are illegal. Nowhere is "safe" and nobody is immune to senseless violence. Someone is robbed for their phone and is shot in the process. Do we take away phones? No. Because phones aren't the problem. PEOPLE are the problem. An innocent guy was shot. A guy with his whole life ahead of him and his shooter was out ON BAIL. One would anticipate that someone out on bail (for a felony: aggravated assault of a police officer) wouldn't be engaging in illegal activities pending their upcoming trial. But several witnesses have proven that police have ascertained the assailant. So, was the gun legal? Was the guy holding it licensed to hold a gun? Should Illinois overturn its Concealed Carry laws? IT DOESN'T MATTER. Because the man holding the gun was the problem. The man holding the gun committed an illegal act. The man holding the gun was out on bail. People are the problem. The system is the problem.
The man who was shot in this story was not my friend. We went to elementary school and junior high together... But we were never close. He was a nice person and he had a heck of a smile. He dated one of the most bubbly, beautiful, sweet girls I have the privilege of sharing friends with. He was a unique piece in a pair, one part of my schools only sets of twins. At this point in his life, at 25 years old, we shouldn't be getting ready this morning for his funeral. The man who shot Kevin, not only condemned himself... But condemned everyone who knew and loved Kevin to a life of loss. And that's the real tragedy here. I have full faith that whatever is waiting for us on the other side of life, (if there's any justice in this universe) Kevin is receiving nothing but the best. As for his killer, I can only hope he has to answer for what he has done for the rest of his life, because everyone who knew Kevin certainly will.
Rest in peace Kevin. You will undoubtedly be missed.
